The Recycling Process
Less waste going to landfill means you avoid the cost of increasing landfill rates and taxes and you make a positive contribution to sustaining the environment in which we live. The McAteer Material Recycling Facility has the ability to handle a broad range of your waste materials:
Cardboard
There are a number of options for recycling clean cardboard. Before it can be sent for reprocessing it needs to be gathered in 500kg bales. This can be done on site or we can collect it loose or in smaller bales, and bale it for you. Recycled cardboard is usually reformed as new packaging.
Timber
The various forms of timber that come to our facility are sorted and sent to 3rd party facilities where the timber is transformed into new products such as wood pellets and animal bedding, depending on the size and quality of the chipped wood.
Plastic
Plastic can be recycled using a variety of technologies; resulting products range from pipes to fleece jackets. Post-consumer plastics can now be broken down into component parts and used to produce new plastics.
Paper
Recycled paper is processed into a wide range of paper products, ranging from packaging to fine writing paper, from tea bags to graphic paper. We will collect your waste paper in either segregated or mixed form.
Metals
All metal can be recycled - the process and end result depend upon the type of metal and its condition. Where one type of metal is consistently generated, it is better to keep it segregated as it maximises the end value.
Construction and Demolition
After the wood and plastics are separated, the rubble and stones are screened and crushed into new aggregate that is subsequently reused in the construction industry.
